Is parasailing safe? Florida's rules

Florida has strict rules for parasail companies, and they apply on every trip. Four weather limits stop a flight.

No flight with: steady wind over 20 mph, or gusts over 25 mph. Gusts 15 mph or more above the steady wind. Rain or fog that cuts sight to under half a mile. Lightning within 7 miles.

What the companies must have

Each company must carry $1 million in insurance for each accident and a US Coast Guard licensed captain on board. You may ask for the insurer's details.

They must log the weather on every trip and carry a radio and a weather device.

What is included and what is not?

Every trip includes safety gear and the boat. The rest varies.

  • South Beach boat trip: life vests, boat trip and crew. Food and drinks are not included.
  • Flight with lunch: captain, instructors and lunch on that option. Photos, spectators and a phone case cost extra.
  • Parasail and jet ski: gear, instructors and parking. Fees are paid at check-in.
  • Parasail and ATV: guides and gear for both. A boating license and a waiver are not included.

Tips before you book parasailing in Miami

  1. Add the check-in fee

Two trips charge more at check-in. Add it to the online price before you compare.

  2. Expect weather delays

By law, flights stop in strong wind, rain or lightning. One company gives a voucher to rebook if the weather stops your flight.

  3. Cancel for free

All four trips let you cancel up to 24 hours before for a full refund.

  4. Ask about photos first

Photos cost extra on some trips. Decide before you go, so you are not sold them on the boat.
